Surrounded by pine forests and overlooking the beautiful Tarana valley, our family-run truffiere is located just north of Oberon, 3 hours west of Sydney.
Our children were often telling us jokingly that we should grow truffles as Oberon winters were so cold.
In 1998 the first truffle was found in Tasmania. So why not?
In 2002 we planted our first 300 ilex, robur and hazelnut trees and added another 250 trees the next year on the hilliest well drained site on our property.
We found our first truffle in 2007 and little did we know where the journey would lead. Farmer’s markets, chefs, restaurants, fine food and wine.
It has been an interesting journey!
The Hunting Team
Our children are now helping us plant, prune, forage, lead truffle hunts and prepare taste experiences for our guests.
Our dogs are the most important part of the business. Without their expertise indicating the ripe truffle, Col would have to spend a large amount of time crawling around under the trees. Pigs were traditionally used but they are not easy to put in a car and will eat the precious harvest! Our dogs are ecstatic over a mud encrusted piece of dried meat.
